Caident Docs

Welcome to CaidentCalc

CaidentCalc is a desktop application for hydraulic calculation of fire-sprinkler systems. You describe the system — water supply, nodes, pipe segments, and the sprinklers that flow — and CaidentCalc solves the pressures and flows throughout the system, grades every calculation area Pass or Fail against your water supply, and produces a submittal-ready PDF report with a cover sheet and water-supply curve.

Advisory

CaidentCalc is intended to support professional fire protection design. Calculation inputs and results should be reviewed by a qualified fire protection professional before use in permit, construction, or other formal documents. Caident assumes no liability for calculations relied upon without appropriate professional review.

What CaidentCalc does

  • System entry built for speed — spreadsheet-style tables for nodes, pipe segments, pumps, and fixed losses, with keyboard-first navigation and dimension-style input (5'2.4" works exactly as typed).
  • Server-side solving — the calculation runs on Caident's servers, so results are identical everywhere.
  • Full results — per-area pass/fail with safety margins, node pressures and discharges, a segment-by-segment friction analysis, and the water-supply curve.
  • Professional PDF reports — a configurable cover sheet (company profiles, occupancy-based design criteria, base-of-riser data), one PDF per calculation area or a single combined document.
  • Pipe-table management — view, create, and edit .cpipe fitting tables, or import HASS .pip tables.
  • Third-party import (beta) — read existing calculations out of HASS, AutoSPRINK, and HydraCAD report PDFs (and HASS .sdf files) and map their pipes into your tables.

Three ways a project starts

  1. Open or create a .ccalc project — chapter 3 and chapter 14.
  2. Import a third-party calculation — a HASS/AutoSPRINK/HydraCAD report PDF becomes an editable CaidentCalc project (chapter 11).
  3. Receive it from Caident Design — the companion CAD app sends its piping model straight into CaidentCalc over a local link (chapter 12).

Who this manual is for

Fire-sprinkler designers and engineers who know hydraulic calculation — K-factors, C values, flow tests — and want to know how this particular tool works.

Conventions

  • Keys look like this: press Ctrl+T to calculate.
  • Menu paths use arrows: File → Export PDF.
  • On-screen labels are bold, exactly as they appear.
TermMeaning
NodeA point in the network: a sprinkler, a junction, or the supply source.
SegmentWhat connects two nodes: a pipe (with material, diameter, length, fittings), a pump, or a fixed loss.
Calculation areaA named set of flowing sprinklers with K-factors and minimum flows — each area is solved and graded separately.
Pipe tableThe catalogue of materials, diameters, C values, and fitting equivalent lengths the solver reads from (.cpipe).
